Body As Camera
Synchronising mind and body is thus helpful as a technique for self-improvement. The body is like a camera, and the mind, like the film inside the camera.
Just as you set the aperture with the shutter speed in a camera, so also if mind and body are synchronised, we can have a clear perception of life, without doubt, anxiety or fear.
It is illuminating to see how the mind works; how the body is in turn, literally forced into action by the mind; how a person begins building an unreal identity of himself and how the continuing defence of this identity finally enslaves and hurts us. Our body is the source of all suffering, and so the body must be overcome.
In traditional Indic and eastern spiritual systems, overcoming the body is attempted through asceticism or penance.
This means going against what the body seems to want and of asserting mind over matter. However, modern nutritionists tell us that happiness is not going to be achieved by torturing the body any more than by indulging it.
